Suspect killed after driving through Detroit crime scene and exchanging gunfire with police

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating after a wild and deadly scene took place on the west side of the city from Sunday evening to Monday morning.

At 10:40 PM Sunday, police were called to the McNichols Road and Ward Avenue area, where five people were reportedly shot. Police say the victims are between 18 and 36 years old and are all still alive.

At the same time, a car accident occurred at the same location in which one man died and another man in critical condition.

Detroit police say the two incidents are related.

While police were investigating, a man drove through the crime scene, hit an officer and fired shots from the vehicle, officials said.

The shooter drove off and the police chased him to the area of ​​8 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue on the east side of the city. There, the person reportedly left his vehicle and started firing at officers again. Officials said officers fired.

The shooter was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His identity has not yet been disclosed.
