Suspect for shooting police officers arrested in Toa Alta

Authorities reported on Thursday night the arrest of Gabriel Santiago Andino, who is accused of shooting two municipal police officers in Toa Alta on Feb. 3.

According to the police report, 19-year-old Santiago Andino was arrested around 11 a.m. on Thursday evening in the San José neighborhood of Toa Alta.

The person had been issued an arrest warrant in absentia with $ 1.4 million worldwide bail for violation of the Articles of Attempted Murder, the Guns Act and the Controlled Substances Act.

According to authorities, agents from the Puerto Rico police station entered the Ramón Pérez residential complex in Toa Alta on Feb. 3 to confirm information and interview an interested person. Mr. Santiago Andino became aware of the police presence and fired two shots at a lieutenant and a sergeant of the Toa Alta Municipal Police with a firearm. The sergeant was shot in the left hip.

Agent José Ortiz assigned to the Bayamón Special Arrests Division carried out the arrest under the supervision of Sergeant George Marrero of the Comprehensive Plan for Citizen Security.
