The pop-off is real in Super Smash Bros.

Super Smash Bros. Melee Champion Juan “Hungrybox” DeBiedma is known for over partying after a particularly intense match. Seriously, is there a more memorable Smash moment than EVO 2016, when Hungrybox lay on the floor in tears after beating Adam “Armada” Lindgren?

Well, Hungrybox may have outdone itself this time. Last night, Hungrybox fell out so hard that he passed out for about 10 seconds. It was such a shocking and worrying moment captured on webcam that it may well be one of the most talked about pop-offs of all time.

Hungrybox shared the moment on Twitter, telling his followers that he was going to the doctor to see if everything is okay. Even though the Internet has already had a field day making fun of such a meme moment, passing out is no laughing matter.

Hungrybox explains the passing out

Hungrybox released a video discussing the incident in question the following night. He talked about the intense six-hour flow as he climbed to the grand final of Eastcoast Fridays, a weekly online Melee tournament with some big names.

“I’m sweaty, I’m tired. But I’m also hyper-focused. That’s when I decided I wanted this bounty more than anything in my life,” Hungrybox recalled. “I started playing the best online Melee I’ve ever had.”

Hungrybox admitted that he often shouts quite loudly when he wins. “That’s just who I am,” he said, noting that he wears his heart on his sleeve. But the screaming always makes him a little light-headed.

This time, however, it was a bit different. His vision and his head “became light.” He said there was a cloud in his head and he became very dizzy, similar to an intense motion sickness. It was stronger than any other time he jumped out, causing him to pass out for the first time ever.

“It was a bizarre experience,” said Hungrybox.

Hungrybox also added that he is completely fine. It was most likely a lack of food and hydration rather than a serious health condition. Perhaps popping so excitedly after more than eight hours of streaming isn’t the best decision. Still, it is a relief for his fans.

This isn’t the first time Hungrybox has encountered a health problem.

For EVO 2018, Hungrybox announced a serious wrist injury on its Twitter. After finishing second to a local, Hungrybox experienced a sharp pain in his wrist that shot past his arm.

“First the broken finger, then food poisoning, then the flu, whatever this is,” Hungrybox tweeted.

Some reactions to Hungrybox’s wrist injury are part of why the Smash community was considered toxic for so many years. Many people celebrated Melee God’s health concerns, seemingly content that he would not be able to compete with his full potential.

The bullying became too much for Hungrybox at the time. He tweeted that he has been bullied by the community for 12 years. This included being mocked every day by his “colleagues, competitors” and even “figureheads of the community”.

“What’s the point now,” Hungrybox wondered at the time.

While the Smash community recently cleaned up its act, it hasn’t stopped people from making fun of Hungrybox for its latest health episode. A lot of people joked that Hungrybox “came to rest,” referring to one of his pairing moves with Jigglypuff. Remixes of the video are also starting to appear on Twitter.

Joseph “Mang0” Marquez even replied, “What the hell is wrong with you?”

While Hungrybox has welcomed the entertainment for now, its fans are hoping that all is well health-wise with the top Melee competitor. The Smash community is currently waiting for an update on Hungrybox’s doctor visit.
