A few years later than planned, the sequel to the 2010 hit Super Meat Boy has arrived. Super Meat Boy Forever is its name, and more murderous platforming is its game – but this time with an auto-spinning twist.
Your gentle heroes will handle the running themselves, you see, as you focus on jumping, running, punching, and trying not to get chopped by the squillion buzzsaws. I’ll have to see how that erupts in reality, but Meat Boy co-creator Tommy Refenes spoke to us before about wanting two-button controls to make the game accessible, but by no means easy.
“You don’t have to do five control buttons to run out of the way and you don’t have to make weird moves to land on a small platform,” he told Katharine in 2019. “We have two buttons that you can assign to anything. I feel like that lowers the barrier to entry so we don’t have to make an easy mode. We’ll start at Hard, so our base is just as hard as Super Meat Boy, and it goes up from there. ”
In a small letter on Twitter during today’s launch, Refenes said, “I couldn’t be more proud of the game we made.”
Incidentally, co-founder of Team Meat, Edmund McMillen, is not part of this, as he left the company a long time ago to do his own things. The next of them is a new Binding Of Isaac expansion based on a massive fan-made mod.
Super Meat Boy Forever is available now on the Epic Games Store for £ 16. It is now also on Nintendo Switch. But then again, it won’t be on Steam until 2021.
