The Rabbit & Bear Studios JRPG doubled the revenue of Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101: Remastered
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes was the most successful Kickstarter campaign for a video game this year.
That’s according to research from Polygon, which ranked the site’s largest video game crowdfunding campaigns in the past 12 months.
Rabbit & Bear Studios’ Eiyuden Chronicle is firmly at the top with more than ¥ 481 million (approximately $ 4.6 million) raised from more than 46,000 backers.
When the campaign ended, it was the third highest total for a video game project in Kickstarter history and broke the record for the most money raised by a Japanese Kickstarter campaign.
It also more than doubled the money raised by the second largest project of 2020, Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101: Remastered for ¥ 235.3 million ($ 2.3 million) from 33,000 backers.
In third place was Owlcat Games’ RPG Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, with 2,000 more backers, but just over $ 2 million in total.
The ten best game campaigns on Kickstarter have raised more than $ 12.5 million.
In comparison, the top-grossing individual campaign for a table game was dungeon crawler Frosthaven with $ 12.9 million.
