Study: British Variant Doubling Every Day in US

According to an investigation released on the medRxiv server on Sunday, the UK coronavirus strain in the US is doubling every 10 days.

Researchers estimate that the British variety is expected to become the predominant species in the US in March, with a potential risk of more cases and deaths, although the study has not yet been peer reviewed or published in a medical journal.

“Our study shows that the US is on a similar trajectory to other countries where B.1.1.7 quickly became the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant, requiring immediate and decisive action to reduce COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. to minimize, ”the study said.

“Nothing in this article is surprising, but people should see it,” said Kristian Andersen, study co-author and virologist at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, The New York Times reported.

Researchers estimate that the British species has spread to at least 33 states in the US, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, The Hill reported.

The scientists suspect that the strain represents a higher percentage of coronaovirus cases in several states, such as states like Florida, where an estimated 4.5% of cases come from the variant.

This compares to the UK variant which accounts for an estimated 2% of all US cases, according to the Times. This means that every day 1,000 more people feel the strain.
