We don’t even know where to start with this. A series of rather cryptic Metal Gear related tweets have sparked speculation of some sort of incoming announcement. It’s all a bit weird, but we’ll try to understand some of it.
In April 2021, a Twitter account called ‘Tom Olsen’ was created. According to the biography, Tom is a “Maintenance Technician at the Big Shell” – the main institution of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. Tom only follows the official accounts for Metal Gear, Konami, Hideo Kojima and baseball team the New York Mets. Additionally, all of Tom’s tweets thus far have been related to Metal Gear Solid 2, complete with screenshots from the game.
One of Tom’s latest tweets suggests something is coming soon:
Okay, so who is this ‘Tom Olsen’? Is this just some strange role play? Why should anyone care? Tom was tweeted by the official Metal Gear account a few days ago. The account played along with Tom’s tweet and seemed to suggest something is up “next week”.
It’s just a bit weird, isn’t it? Given the often mysterious nature of the Metal Gear series, it’s no wonder people are starting to pay attention to this. That said, we’ve seen it a lot of of the rumors start with strange shenanigans on social media, and most of the time they’re not what you expect. At this point these tweets could mean something, so we do not recommend that you place your hope.
But whispers of Metal Gear Solid remakes have been around for months, and this thing just adds fuel to the fire. We’ll just have to wait and see if something happens next week, right?
