Store employee shot while chasing suspected shoplifting near 32nd Street and Indian School Road

PHOENIX – Phoenix Police Department is investigating a shooting at a business near 32nd Street and Indian School Road.

Just after 9 a.m. on Saturday, police responded to a shopping mall for reports of a shooting.

The agents on the scene say that ABC15 fired outside Howard’s Ace Hardware store during a robbery attempt.

Phoenix police said an employee tried to stop a shoplifter while they were both running out of the store.

A man standing outside witnessed the chase and dropped a gun. Police said he shot the shoplifter, but the employee missed and hit.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is said to have serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The shoplifter left the scene before the police arrived. It is unclear whether he has been identified.

The person who fired the shots has stayed on the scene and is working with the police. It is unclear whether charges will be filed.

The investigation is still ongoing.
