THEOn Monday, the night hosts (without Trevor Noah, who is unfortunately free this week) all addressed the news that captivated 17 million Americans: Oprah Winfrey’s prime-time interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who left the British Royal Family that characterized the two as a campaign of gaslighting, neglect and racist treatment. Jimmy Kimmel mocked the royal family’s ‘inbreeding’ past, while Stephen Colbert kicked off his riff in a slightly more playful note.
From the portion of the interview where Markle claimed she never looked up Harry online (yes, right!), The Late show the host creaked, “What! Let me introduce you to Google. I think it’s called “truck” there. It’s full of useful information – it turns out, for example, that your husband knew Princess Di. Perhaps that was an indication that this was going to be a rough show. “
Then the kicker: “Also, while you’re Googling you might want to try the combo ‘Andrew’, ‘Island’ and ‘Epstein’. It gives you an idea of what the royals are going to agree to.”
Colbert, of course, was referring to Prince Andrew, the queen of England’s alleged favorite son. Virginia Roberts Giuffre claimed that late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein sexually trafficked her to the prince at least three times, allegations Andrew has denied, while a former Epstein employee claimed he saw Andrew “ grinding ” with a topless girl on Epstein’s Little St. James – a private island in the US Virgin Islands called ‘Pedophile Island’.
While Prince Harry was stripped of his military titles upon resigning from his royal duties, Prince Andrew has been allowed to keep his titles despite retiring from royal duties following Epstein’s allegations. Buckingham Palace has not investigated Andrew and has instead conducted a dubious “plague case” against Markle.
Later in the Oprah interview, Markle said members of Harry’s family “had concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] could be skin when he was born. (Harry confirmed the claim.) That caused a baffled Oprah to exclaim, “What ?!”
“I agree. What ?! And just let me add, huh ?!” added Colbert. “I’m getting to the point here that there is a possibility – just a possibility, mind you – that this medieval selective breeding program … could be racist?”
“It’s also never right if the British ruling class thinks someone is too dark,” he continued. “They steal their land and let them play cricket.”
