Shake your money maker
I always enjoy ending the year with a look at Steam’s list of best-selling games.
In addition to high-profile new releases such as Cyberpunk 2077 and surprising indie hits like Phasmophobia, 2020 was another year of gaming dominated by old flames we just can’t break out of.
These were the ‘top 100 games by gross revenue’ on Steam in 2020:
Note: These games are grouped on Steam, but I have listed the individual games in each group alphabetically.

I’m also fascinated by Steam’s most played section – the games with the highest peak concurrent players in 2020. Cyberpunk and Among us are represented on the list with over 200,000 players at once, as you might expect, but it is Life is strange 2. I am genuinely surprised to see that name appear.
Another interesting tidbit via Daniel Ahmad |: A lot of us made time for some (okay more than “some”) PC gaming over the holidays. This year, Steam had 23 million simultaneous peak users on Christmas Day – a notable increase from 2019 (15.8 million users), 2018 (15.3 million) and 2017 (16.2 million).
If you’re curious, Steam is also highlighting new releases, Early Access grades, the best VR games and controller games – “the best controller games of the year as measured by daily active controller players.”
You do you, Steam. You do you.
