Starling Mars disabled due to rib fracture

MIAMI – An MRI test revealed that Marlin’s center fielder Starling Marte sustained an unmoved fracture to his 12th rib (left side), the team announced Monday afternoon. Mars will be inactive for a period of five to seven days before being reassessed, which would help estimate when it might get back into action.

Miami will put Marte on the eliminated list for Tuesday’s game against the Orioles and will make a corresponding move.

Marte got out in the middle of his at bat in the ninth inning in Miami’s 1-0 loss to the Giants Sunday on loan at Depot Park. He caught the attention of the coaching staff when he started to touch his side and was visited near the hitting box by manager Don Mattingly and trainer Gene Basham after missing a curveball from Tyler Rogers.

Mars is an important part of the Marlins roster. He started at full power in 2021, hitting .316 / .420 / .491 with two home runs and a .912 OPS. The Dominican has started all 15 Miami games in midfield.
