New Yorkers hoping to buy a latte at Starbucks on Sunday will likely find their convenience store closed.

The coffee chain has temporarily closed “ select stores ” in the Manhattan area over the likelihood of protests today, according to an emailed statement from a company spokesman. A slew of posts on Twitter and the company’s online store locator show that the closures are widespread.

“Out of an abundance of caution and in order to keep the safety of partners and customers a high priority, local leaders have made the decision to close selected stores in the Manhattan area due to anticipated protests taking place today. We will resume operations tomorrow, ”the statement said.

A sign on the window of an Upper West Side location said the store is temporarily closed. “We apologize for the inconvenience. We are working to reopen our store as soon as possible, ”he said.

No large-scale protests had been reported in Manhattan early Sunday afternoon. West Side Rag, a local publication, previously reported Starbucks’ decision.
