Several Starbucks stores in Manhattan were closed on Sunday for fear of protests, the company said.
The coffee chain giant cited possible demonstrations as the reason for the closure of ‘selected stores’ in the city, a statement said.
“Out of an abundance of caution and in order to keep the safety of partners (employees) and customers high, local leaders have made the decision to close selected stores in the Manhattan area due to potential protests taking place today,” said one. spokeswoman.
The company’s online store locator showed widespread closures across Manhattan. A tipster told the West Side Rag that all locations south of 110th Street were closed.
The shops would reopen on Monday.
As of Sunday afternoon, no large-scale protests or disruptions had been reported in the Big Apple.
