St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue Stolen vaccine research

Details are sparse, but St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue has confirmed to Spectrum Bay News 9 that vaccine vials have been stolen.

At this time, officials have not said how many were taken or when they were taken, but SPFR has requested an internal investigation with the St. Petersburg police, a spokesman for the agency said.

Spectrum News also reached out to the mayor’s office for comment.

“We are aware of the allegations and understand that a police investigation is underway,” communications director Ben Kirby wrote in an email.

Our news partner, the Tampa Bay Times, reports that St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue is helping to staff the vaccination site at the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.

Last week, a Polk County Fire Rescue ambulance crew was arrested and charged with stealing vaccine vials.

A PCFR captain was later detained in connection with the case.
