While the idea of Square Enix being backed by one of the gaming giants may sound exciting at first, it’s probably best if it can remain independent. With Bethesda now being gobbled up by Microsoft, the chances of new games coming from the studio to Switch and PlayStation are getting smaller by the day; if a studio remains independent, it is much more likely that all players, regardless of their systems at home, will be able to enjoy new releases.

This information comes from the financial news platform CTFN via a Bloomberg Japan report – which claims several potential buyers have expressed interest in the Japanese games company. It’s all according to two bankers quoted CTFN, who are “familiar with the matter”.
It’s unclear whether these buyers are interested in Square Enix’s games division or purchasing the company as a whole.
