Springfield’s City Utilities is working to restore power to nearly 6,000 customers after an ice storm

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield City Utilities crews work all morning to restore power to thousands in the grid after an ice storm on New Year’s Day.

As of 11 a.m., Joel Alexander of City Utilities reported 6,000 customers without electrical service. Alexander says the changing conditions with precipitation and temperatures often make restorations more difficult.

Alexander says that at the height of the storm, more than 12,000 customers were without power.

“Overnight, CU line and tree crews started responding to outages when the weather allowed it,” Alexander said in an update Friday morning. “Most of the outages were caused by branches and trees that come into contact with the power lines. However, at least one utility structure is corrupted. Additional line and boom crews are arriving to assist the CU crews. “

Additional line and boom crews have arrived to assist and will make repairs as soon as possible.
