Spiders are making massive exodus amid massive floods in Australia

It gets biblical down under.

Spiders are making a massive exodus amid widespread flooding in southeastern Australia.

Heavy rains from the past week have forced thousands of people to leave their homes in New South Wales, and hundreds more had to be rescued from the rising water, officials said Monday.

But humans aren’t the only ones on the run from the floods – videos and photos on social media have also revealed swarms of bugs have been trying to reach dry land.

Melanie Williams, from the NSW town of Macksville, posted a clip on Facebook on Saturday showing hundreds of arachnids crawling on her garage door.

“Sooooo many SPIDERS from the floods,” she wrote.

Another video, posted by TikTok user Shenea Varley last weekend, showed spiders clinging to a fence as they struggled to escape the churning water churning below.

“There were also skinks, ants, basically all bugs, crickets – they were all trying to get away from the floodwaters,” Varley told The Guardian Australia after a visit to western Sydney.

“My husband videotaped it because I couldn’t get close to it,” she added. “When he stopped, spiders climbed his legs.”

Kinchela Creek resident Matt Lovenfosse told CNN on Tuesday that rain was still falling and water was getting closer to his family’s home.

“It should be inside by tomorrow morning and the spiders will be all over the house,” he told the outlet, adding, “the trees are full of snakes.”
