Speakers refer to colorful iMacs with an iPad Pro-like processor for the April 20 event

One prominent leaker has seemingly hinted that Apple will be introducing a variety of color options for an updated iMac model at its “Spring Loaded” event, while another expert strongly points out that it is an Apple Silicon launch.

According to rumors of Apple’s special event on April 20, Apple has launched a number of different devices, including updated iPad models and an Apple Silicon version of the iMac. The well-known product leaker “L0vetodream” suggests in further analysis of the AR teaser in case the iMac update could be colorful.

Tweet on Saturday, the account will compose an image of the AR invitation logo next to an image with multiple G3 iMacs. The model in question was known for being offered to the public in a wide variety of bright colors.

However, after the initial reports on the tweet, “@ L0vetodream” offered in a second message that they “said nothing” in that first message.

Earlier, the tweeter speculated that Apple could introduce an iMac with a much larger screen than the existing 27-inch iMac model, but gave no advice on sizing.

Previous rumors have claimed that Apple is considering offering color options for the new iMac, as in renders released in February. The models were described as a mix of the Pro Display XDR and iPad Pro, complete with edge-to-edge displays and colors similar to the iPad Air.

It’s very likely that Apple will use such an iMac launch to introduce Apple Silicon, but it’s unclear whether it will continue with the M1 or introduce a new variant. Post Friday, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg mused “Would anyone else think it strange if a large iMac used essentially the same processor as an iPad Pro?”

It’s unclear whether this refers to M-series chips that are similar to the well-known A-series, or whether Apple plans to use a modified version of the M1 in the iMac. Apple typically uses upgraded versions of A-series chips in its iPad Pro lineup, so Gurman’s entry might conclude that something similar could be happening for the iMac.

Speculation from February had the “M1X” as a 12-core CPU, an increase over the 8 cores in the M1, and also an increase in the GPU from 8 cores to 16 cores. There have also been claims that the chip is made using a 5-nanometer process, has 256 execution units versus 128 in the M1, and is capable of driving three displays instead of two.
