According to Univisión, Villarruel lived in his Ford Thunderbird LX 97 even when he was a teacher because he couldn’t afford a place to live while taking care of his family in Mexico.
“My body has adapted to all the bumps and shapes of the chair. It serves as a transport, dining room and bedroom,” he told the outlet about what it feels like to live in his car.
Then a former student named Steven Nava found him on the street.
“I was devastated and devastated by the reality of the pandemic and how it put teachers out of work and this is one of the results. It’s sad to see one of your own teachers going through that so that’s why you just want to help.more, ”Nava told Fox Los Angeles.
The student wanted to give Villarruel a $ 300 first aid but knew he would need more.
So he created a campaign that went viral to raise money for the teacher.
At a party held at the Fontana City community center, his former students surprised him with a check for $ 27,000 and other gifts.
