Sources – San Francisco 49ers, Trent Williams agree to $ 138 million deal that makes him the highest paid OL in NFL history

Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers have reached a $ 138 million six-year deal that will make him the highest-paid attacking lineman in NFL history, sources told ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

The deal, agreed early Wednesday morning, has guaranteed $ 55.1 million and includes a $ 30.1 million signing bonus, sources told Russini.

The Niners are also seeking a deal with free agent center Alex Mack, a source told Russini.

Williams, widely regarded as the best available free agent in this off-season, also discussed deals with the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

But Kansas City signed Joe Thuney and Chicago signed Germain Ifedi, paving the way for Brown’s historic deal to return to San Francisco.

The 49ers traded for Williams on the third day of the 2020 NFL draft, sending a fifth-round and third-round selection for 2021 to the Washington Football Team.

When they joined the Niners, they agreed to add a clause in his contract that would prevent them from tagging him out of season. Williams, 32, went on to stabilize the left tackle position in place of retired Joe Staley, starting 14 games, returning to his previous Pro Bowl form.

All of that came back in Williams’ first season after serving all of 2019 when he had a dispute with Washington over the handling of his injury issues and his contract.

At the end of the season, Williams insisted he hoped to re-sign with San Francisco, but also acknowledged that he wanted to see what a first tackle in the open market could get, as players of that caliber rarely get that far in his position. come. in free agency.

Since entering the league as the # 4 overall pick in the 2010 draft, Williams has started with 133 games, earning eight Pro Bowl berths and an All Pro second-team nod in 2015.
