Sources – Multiple teams contacted New York Jets about Sam Darnold

At a time when quarterback trade talks in the league have already heated up, multiple teams have reached out to the New York Jets and expressed an interest in trading for former No. 3 overall pick Sam Darnold, according to league sources.

The Jets haven’t turned down the calls, per sources, but neither have they made any final and firm quarterback decisions about which direction they want or what they’re ready for.

They could trade Darnold, use the compensation they get back in exchange for another quarterback, or draft a quarterback with the second overall pick. All options are explored and on the table, per competition source.

Contacted on Saturday, the Jets did not want to confirm they had received trade calls on Darnold. However, other sources have said so.

Looking back at last weekend’s first quarterback trade deal should get a glimpse of the potential market for Darnold.

Teams calling on Matthew Stafford, who was traded from Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, included the Washington Football Team, the Indianapolis Colts, the Carolina Panthers, the San Francisco 49ers, the Chicago Bears, and others.

The Jets are not ready to make a trade and are still looking for the best path for the organization to take. But with Stafford moving to Los Angeles and the Eagles approaching a deal for Carson Wentz, the Jets aren’t expected to be far behind in making their own quarterback decision that will affect the entire league.
