The 2021 Consumer Electronics Show kicked off today – virtually, of course – and during a video presentation, Sony revealed information about the new release date of half a dozen games. But it did not announce these dates as you might expect. Instead, all new information came from text that appeared at the bottom of the screen for just a few seconds in the middle of the video. But good news: we have a release month for the Square Enix mystery Project athia.

Sony’s video included some of the company’s businesses and covered new products that the massive company plans to bring to market in the next two years. New TVs, movies, etc. But buried in this video, a few minutes is devoted to the PlayStation 5 and Sony’s gaming division.

Hosted by PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, this segment was not very interesting, mainly focusing on what the company has done with the launch of PS5 and the games released so far. But at the very end of the segment, near 10:39 am, you can see the slide with a ton of new info about upcoming PS5 games.

  • Returns – 3/19/21
  • Pragmata – 2023
  • Solar axis – June 2021
  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits – March 2021
  • Stray & GhostWire: Tokyo – October 2021
  • Little Devil Inside – July 2021
  • Project Athia – January 2022
  • Hitman 3 – January 2021
  • Horizon: Forbidden West – 2021

Part of this is old information we already knew about it, Like it Assassin 3‘s release date. But there is clear news. As mentioned, we now have a release window for Project athia, the new Square Enix game which will be exclusive to PS5 for two years. If it comes out in January, that would mean Xbox Series X players will have to wait until at least 2024 to play the still-mysterious game.

Strayed, the PS5 adventure with a cat in a futuristic robot city, is apparently coming in October. We knew it would be released in 2021, but this is the first entry in a month. Same with GhostWire: Tokyo, the spooky FPS of Tango Gameworks, which only had a vague release date for 2021. It also plans to release in October.

And last but not least, Pragmata, that weird-looking game from Capcom first revealed at a PS5 event June 2020, seems to have slowed down. It was scheduled to be released sometime in 2022, but is now coming a year later based on the information from the CES video.

Fine print ending up in the middle of a random video is a rather odd way to essentially announce some new PS5 release dates, and I expect these games and their respective studios to announce this news more officially with formal Twitter posts and trailers . In the meantime, I can’t wait for the next batch of PS5 games to be revealed at the end of a random pop-up ad on the internet or something.
