First of all, how dare you, Sony.

In an interview ostensibly about their new movie Cherry, Tom Holland and Anthony and Joe Russo aka de Russo brothers spoke to the previously invisible spider in the room: Tom Holland was not exactly the Spider Man Sony wanted according to the Russos. With great strength comes great responsibility and, according to the Russo brothers, Sony was unsure of taking on that particular responsibility.

In the interview with British GQ, the Russo brothers told how to fight for us patron saint of spoilers

“We spoke to Feige at Marvel about the Netherlands and he got excited and then we went to Sony…” explains Joe. “And they said, ‘Let’s think about it for a minute.’ We could see that we were facing resistance from Sony, so we brought [Holland] back, brought him back, brought him back, and we were relentless in our pursuit to disturb him down the throats of the studio that owns this IP address. It amounted to a fight, but Sony just kept dragging their feet … they were reluctant, nervous, about handing over something that could end up costing them hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions of dollars across the line. “

But the rest is history. Sony faltered and now we are approaching our third Tom Holland Spider-Man movie.
