Last week, Roger Craig Smith – the voice of Sonic the hedgehog for more than ten years – announced his departure from the role.

Clearly, debate has arisen as to who could be the next Sonic voice actor. In fact, many longtime fans have called for previous Sonic the Hedgehog voice actors to return, and it appears that one his agent in particular has already contacted Sega.

The man we’re talking about is Ryan Drummond. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, he is best known within the community for voicing Sonic in the original Dreamcast forays Sonic adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. He was also later credited in games like Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut and Sonic Advance 3.

During a recent live stream, Drummond confirmed that his agent had contacted Sega. This was revealed in response to a question about his possible return:

“I wish I could [say ‘yes’], but we don’t know anything yet. You know as much as I know … We don’t want to get stuck on this topic of conversation, but I have no qualms … telling everyone … my agent contacted SEGA today so hopefully there is a call to be. And we’ll see what happens next. There are many different factors that people don’t even realize play a role here. “

While this will no doubt be exciting news for many, whether Sega would hire someone again for such an iconic role is a whole other question. Would you like Drummond to return his role as Sonic? Let us know below.
