You know those friends that you communicate with completely via gifs and TikTok links? Well, last week my best friend sent me this:
I only played one Monster Hunter game, and it was Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS. I enjoyed it for the most part – I played with some friends who were way more experienced than me, and they helped me take down some of the trickier monsters. I also had sweet Poogie with me there to make up for it all with his LITTLE BEE COSTUME. Honestly, how is there no game about Poogie? I only kill monsters to keep my boy in new outfits.
But then again, there were outfits for me too – the incredible ensembles I’d make out of the different monster bits, I cut my prey. Even though they had no gender – so sometimes my friends got the cool armor and I got a terrible bikini, or sometimes I got something cool, and got, like a teddy bear outfit – the outfits from my second favorite part of the game. After Poogie, of course.
And then I faced the Gore Magala, a tricky purple wyvern thing that I hope is now in hell. I faced the Gore Magala about five times before giving up and selling the game. I’m sorry, Poogie. I’ve disappointed you.
So I wasn’t that interested in Monster Hunter Rise as I had been steadily ignoring the last few MH games. I prefer my wrists and fingers intact, thank you, and Monster Hunter isn’t really known to let players choose the easy way out.
But Capcom continues to release these cute little works of art that remind me of the reasons why To do like the Monster Hunter games. There is a lot of humor, sweetness and light in between all the dragons and the crushing of eggs. And yes, my wrists won’t thank me, especially when I pick another weapon as clunky as the Insect Glaive, but I’ll take a few pauses to wander around town with Poogie.
Hold on, Poogie is Surely in this one, right?
