Snowstorm Did Not Stop Residents of Skippack, Montgomery County, From Getting the COVID Vaccine

SKIPPACK, Pennsylvania (WPVI) – When heavy snow fell outside Skippack Fire Company in Montgomery County, Donna Mastrangelo waited more than an hour in the freezing cold.

“I just wanted it because I’m tired of the isolation and everything else,” said Mastrangelo, who celebrated her 73rd birthday by getting the COVID-19 vaccine. For her, it was worth the wait, and the elements.

“I wear a mask every day and we’re limited, so it’s something we really have to do,” said Joe, her husband.

The firehouse partnered with the Skippack Pharmacy to dispense a thousand doses to people eligible for Phase 1a in Montgomery County.

“The community told me when I did a poll and asked them, ‘Do you really want to come out in the snow?’ Everyone said, ‘Even if you call me at 3 in the morning, I’ll be there in my pajamas,’ said Mayank Amin, owner of the pharmacy.

That is essentially what happened. This clinic came together in less than 36 hours. The pharmacy discovered that she had received the vaccines on Friday. On Saturday evening, it sent emails to anyone who had expressed an interest in its site.

“All those places were filled this morning at 5:00,” said Amin.

Dressed as a Superman, Amin said he is proud that his independent pharmacy has received these doses.

“Even though I am dressed like a superhero today, my superheroes are the rescuers, all these health care professionals who have put their lives on the line every day for the past year to help save their communities,” he said.
