DENVER (CBS4) – We have a very cold Saturday on our way to eastern Colorado and believe it or not another wave of arctic air will hit the plains for Valentine’s Day. For most locations along and east of Interstate 25, it stays around 10 degrees or below all weekend.
The map below shows the high end of today’s potentially high temperatures in the Denver metro. This card is generous. In fact, we may not even get that warm. Some places can stay below 5 degrees.
As we move into Saturday afternoon, snow will develop along the Front Range as a storm system comes in from the western United States. Snow is expected to last all night until Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has released a winter weather advisory for all of Eastern Colorado, including the entire Interstate 25 urban corridor. We expect a very light and fluffy snowfall with most of the Denver metro possibly coming in the 3-6 inch range.
If a second wave of cold sets in, nighttime temperatures will drop well below zero on Sunday morning. Add a little breeze and we could see the wind chill readings fall in the -20 to -30 degree range.
It is critical that you protect people, pets and pipes this weekend. Large animals that cannot enter require sturdy shelter and water that does not freeze.
Valentine’s Day will be the coldest on record in Denver’s climate record, as high temperatures can hardly reach between 0 and 5 degrees. Sunday evening and early Monday, we could see temperatures close to -20 degrees in some areas where we are seeing partial clarification. If we stay cloudy, lows will likely be in the -6 to -12 degree range.
