‘SNL’ takes over Derek Chauvin’s trial via a morning show in Minnesota

“It’s been a tough week for news,” said Nwodim’s anchor. “There is so much to go into, but first let’s start with the Derek Chauvin trial.”

Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, is on charges of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.

Nwodim’s anchor said watching the lawsuit brought back “so many bad feelings” from last summer.

“It sounds like we can all agree that Derek Chauvin can’t run away from this,” said McKinnon’s anchor.

Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors stopped her there.

“Well …,” said Nwodim and Thompson’s anchors, grinding their faces.

Nwodim’s anchor added, “Let’s just say we’ve seen this movie before.”

McKinnon’s anchor noted that “historically, the police have escaped in other cases like this one.”

“Historically speaking?” Thompson’s anchor asked.

“She means every time,” said Nwodim’s anchor.

Moffat’s anchor then tried to jump in, saying he wanted to choose his words carefully when talking about topics like race.

“To quote Thomas Jefferson …” he began.

“That’s a bad start,” Thompson’s anchor replied.

McKinnon’s anchor then said the morning show team should get a different opinion, so she asked the show’s black weather forecaster, played by Chris Redd, to join.

“Man, don’t get me in this mess!” Redd’s weather forecaster said. “I’m still in the hot water because I’m in that Paul Pierce video.”

The news team then tried to move on to other big stories of the week.

“More sad news this week, unfortunately we lost royalty yesterday,” said McKinnon’s anchor.

“Yes, the rapper DMX has passed away,” added Nwodim’s anchor.

McKinnon’s anchor tried to correct her colleague by saying she was talking about “the prince.”

“Girl, Prince was dead,” said Nwodim’s anchor, referring to the late singer.

Moffat’s anchor explained that she meant Prince Philip of England.

“Meghan Markle’s boyfriend ??” Thompson’s anchor asked.

The team then tried to find another story they could all agree on, but it didn’t take long for the anchors to give up and only the show’s opening line said, “Live … from New York! It’s Saturday night! “
