‘SNL’ takes on Marjorie Taylor Greene, GameStop and Tom Brady

For example, the NBC variety show opened its Saturday night program, with cast member Kate McKinnon hosting a show asking what still works in America. The first category was ‘government’.

“Our first topic is government and I have all my doubts,” said McKinnon.

Greene, who was played by Cecily Strong, came out and immediately offered McKinnon a gun.

“So Congressman Greene … hard to put those words together,” McKinnon said. “What are some of the theories you believe in?”

Strong’s Greene replied, “How much time do you have?”

After hearing some of Greene’s theories, McKinnon asked if she really believed those things and then asked if she was really an American representative.

“People can google you and it says she’s a real member of the US government?” McKinnon asked again.

“That might not be the first thing that comes up, but yes,” replied Strong’s Greene.

McKinnon thanked Greene for coming, saying, “So the government isn’t working.” She then switched to the stock market, which had a wild week thanks to Reddit, bringing in GameStop’s majority shareholder, “Derek Boner.”

Boner, who was played by Pete Davidson, corrected McKinnon by saying, “First of all, it’s pronounced ‘smelly’ market.”

McKinnon then asked Davidson’s Boner if the company’s crazy week reflects GameStop’s business.

“Um, are we selling games?” Davidson Boner asked.

McKinnon came to the conclusion that the stock market is not working either.

After going through topics like social media and the introduction of the Covid-19 vaccine (neither of which works, according to McKinnon), “SNL” finally found something that works in America: Tom Brady.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback, who returns to the Super Bowl with his new team, appeared on this week’s show from presenter John Krasinski.

“You should win football games and you just keep winning football games,” said McKinnon. “You might be the only one in America that’s still working … So I think everyone should be rooting for you, right?”

“Hardly anyone,” Brady of Krasinski replied.

McKinnon said she would root for him because the country can still rely on him and “it’s not like you’re some weird Trump guy or anything, right?”

Brady from Krasinski immediately thanked McKinnon for coming and left the stage.

McKinnon ended the segment by saying she was slowly but surely losing her mind, then shouted out the show’s signature catchphrase, “Live … from New York! It’s Saturday night!”
