“Saturday Night Live” has stayed clear of the Biden administration in the first episode since its inauguration – and the omission did not go unnoticed by some viewers.
The sketch show didn’t feature images of President Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday night, but chose to poke fun at controversial Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine and the GameStop saga.
“Why doesn’t SNL make any sketches about Biden ???” one person grabbed on Twitter.
Another viewer wrote: “Disappointed I expected a stronger and funnier episode. Considering Trump’s departure, Biden’s inauguration, and it was the first installment of the New Year? “
The show consistently drew on Alec Baldwin’s impression of former President Donald Trump during his tenure and also spoofed Joe Biden during the 2020 election.
However, after a month’s break, some were surprised not to see a Biden impression on the screen.
“I really wanted SNL to cover Biden’s inauguration …,” one viewer wrote.
Lorraine Ali, the Los Angeles Times TV critic, noted that it felt like SNL “seems suddenly lost” without Trump and that the show “struggled to find its position.”
