With Jim Carrey (graciously) deciding to step aside as President-elect Joe Biden, Saturday Night Live wasted no time introducing its successor in the final episode of 2020.
“I’m sure all Americans are excited to see me, the man who spread COVID everywhere, get one of the first vaccines,” Beck Bennett’s Mike Pence said at the top of the cold open sketch. He assured the American people that the shot is “completely safe and harmless, and therefore President Trump is refusing to take it or talk about it.”
After trying to get the doctor to inject the vaccine into his butt, Kamala Harris from Maya Rudolph joined him onstage. “How did you get into the White House at all?” Pence asked.
“I’ve won more votes,” she replied to cheers. When he began to question the results of the election, she slapped him in the face.
Then came the moment of truth when Harris presented the president-elect and a fact SNL cast member used a stick to walk out before dropping it Willy Wonka style to make a somersault entrance. Yes, the job has been turned over to Alex Moffat, perhaps best known for his ever-hilarious Eric Trump impression.
When Pence remarked that he looked ‘different’, ‘explained Biden van Moffat,’ Yes. I am like Colonel Sanders. Every time you see me I’m a different boy. Chances are, I’ll be Mario Lopez around this time next year. Now where are the vaccines? “
‘I just want to let the American people know one thing. You are about to have a true leader again. You will have the best cabinet in the history of American politics, ”Biden promised.
“And I’ll make sure Joe never specifies what he means by miscellaneous,” Harris added. “That’s my Christmas present to you America.” When Biden started talking about Kwanzaa, she quickly led him off the stage.
So far it hasn’t been the funniest impression of all time, but it was certainly less unnecessarily manic than Carrey’s and has a lot of potential for the next four years.
