Updating: Last month, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium was reviewed for Switch by the South Korean Review Board.

It was only a matter of time before the game was over officially confirmed, and it seems today is that day. SNK just announced that the Neo Geo Pocket Color version of the popular fighting crossover is coming to the Switch eShop on February 17th.

This 1999 release starts with 18 fighters to choose from, and there are eight more characters to unlock. In terms of modes, there is a single, tag and team battle.

You can also play “VS Mode battles and exchange different data” and in addition there is a “new” SC Olympic Mode in which you can strive to break all records.

Will you join the fray as this pocket-sized version of SNK vs. Capcom appears in the Switch eShop? Tell us below.

Original story [Fri 22nd Jan, 2021 10:00 GMT]: Back in the ’90s, the idea of Capcom and SNK teaming up was just as unlikely as Sega and Nintendo laying down their guns and making friends (like that would ever happen, right ?!). So when these two fighting game greats announced a string of crossover games at the end of the decade, it caused quite a stir.

We have Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 on the Dreamcast, next SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighter’s Clash on the Neo Geo Pocket Color. In addition, we also received SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium on SNK’s handheld – arguably one of the best portable one-on-one fighters ever made. This collaboration would also yield us Capcom versus SNK 2 on Dreamcast (later ported to the PS2, GameCube and Xbox) and SNK against Capcom Choas on Neo Geo, as well as the rather disappointing one SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS a short while later.

As the name of this sub-series suggests, each game featured characters from the respective franchises owned by these two Japanese giants. So the Street Fighter cast clashed with the stars of King of Fighters – things like that. Match of the Millennium took things to the next level and even included Arthur from Ghosts’ n Goblins in its own mini-game. Interestingly, the Neo Geo Pocket Color title can connect to the Dreamcast Capcom vs. SNK, which allows you to unlock characters by earning points when you play along the way.

According to the South Korean rating board, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium to the Switch. The game was recently rated for release in that region – a pretty solid indication that a game is inbound. This will supposedly be part of SNK’s current drive to release some of its most notable Neo Geo Pocket Color titles on Switch; we’ve already had The fighters of SNK Gals, Samurai Shodown II, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.

What makes this new release remarkable is that it is an indication that SNK and Capcom are ready to work together again. While SNK has developed and published this particular game, it includes Capcom’s IP, so we assume a new agreement will need to be signed before this re-release takes place.

Could we possibly have other titles in the Capcom vs. Want to see SNK series on modern platforms? Or maybe the two companies are working on a brand new crossover release?

Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!
