SLO County sets another daily record for COVID-19 cases

San Luis Obispo County is reporting the death of another person who tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials say the patient was in his 80s and had underlying health problems.

San Luis Obispo County also added 343 new cases of COVID-19 over three days, bringing the total number of cases on December 21 to 8,803 confirmed cases.

On Saturday, the province reported 229 new cases, the highest number of cases in one day since the start of the pandemic. A further 60 cases were reported on Sunday and 54 cases on Monday.

The county’s previous record was set on December 10, when 196 cases were reported.

Forty-one people are hospitalized, including nine patients who are in the ICU. Another 1,782 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,909 people have recovered.

In San Luis Obispo County, 60 people have been killed as a result of COVID-19.

The location of 28 additional cases is being investigated, and an additional 11 are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
