SLO County reports 4 more deaths attributed to COVID-19

San Luis Obispo County is reporting the deaths of another four people who tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials say the patients were between the ages of 80 and 100.

There have now been 74 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County.

The county also added 63 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the county’s total to 9,602 confirmed cases on Dec. 29.

On Monday, county health officials said they expect the daily number of cases to rise in the coming days due to a discrepancy between county and state reporting and a pause in testing over the holiday weekend.

Currently, 59 people with COVID-19 are being hospitalized in San Luis Obispo County, including 12 patients in the ICU. Another 2,034 people are recovering at home and health officials say 7,421 people have recovered.

According to the California state of California online COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 23 ICU beds available in San Luis Obispo County.

  • Creston – 41
  • Cayucos – 39
  • Avila Beach – 14
  • San Simeon – 8

The location of 34 additional cases is being investigated, and a further 12 are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
