SLO County reports 242 new COVID-19 cases, 1 additional death

The province of San Luis Obispo added 242 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the count’s total to 9,303 confirmed cases on Dec. 23.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County rose by one to 66 deaths. Health officials say the person who died was in their 90s.

Forty-four people are hospitalized, including six patients who are in the ICU. Another 2,213 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,962 people have recovered.

According to the California state of California online COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 23 ICU beds available in San Luis Obispo County.

  • Shandon – 84
  • Saint Margaret – 77
  • Atascadero State Hospital (patients) – 76
  • Cambria – 66
  • Creston – 41
  • Cayucos – 37
  • Avila Beach – 13
  • San Simeon – 8

The location of 41 additional cases is being investigated, and a further 12 are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
