SLO County reports 179 new COVID-19 cases, 2 additional deaths

San Luis Obispo County is reporting the death of two more people who tested positive for COVID-19.

Health officials say the two patients were in their 80s and 90s. Both had underlying health problems.

San Luis Obispo County also added 179 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the county’s total to 8,269 confirmed cases on Dec. 17.

Twenty-seven people are hospitalized, including eight patients who are in the ICU. Another 1,606 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,568 people have recovered.

In San Luis Obispo County, 56 people have been killed as a result of COVID-19.

The location of 26 additional cases is being investigated, and a further 10 are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
