SLO County reports 151 new COVID-19 cases, 1 more death

San Luis Obispo County added 151 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the county’s total to 18,038 confirmed cases on Feb. 2.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province has risen by one case to a total of 178 deaths.

Health officials say 51 people are currently hospitalized. Another 1,105 people are recovering at home, and health officials say 16,673 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County reports that 19 of the county’s 38 accredited and staffed ICU beds are currently occupied. Eleven of these have been taken by COVID-19 patients.

Updated reopening stats were also released on Tuesday, and San Luis Obispo County remains firmly in the purple low.

While the county meets the positivity rates needed to advance to the next tier, the county’s adjusted case count improved only slightly to 22.6 from 23.8 the previous week, still well above the 7% needed is to switch to the red layer.

To move to the next level, the county must remain in the purple tier for at least three weeks and meet the state’s adjusted number of cases and test positivity criteria.

The location of 68 additional cases is under investigation, and a further six are listed as “other”, including communities with fewer than five cases. The Health Department does not identify those locations.

Community COVID-19 test sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
