A dedicated Grand Theft Auto V fan has compared the maps of the island of Cayo Perico to Los Santos and revealed their true size to scale.
Grand Theft Auto V. fans have the size of GTA Online‘s Cayo Perico Island to the full Los Santos map, giving them a better idea of exactly how big the new area is. Dubbed GTA OnlineThe biggest update ever by developer Rockstar Games, the Cayo Perico Heist update adds a significant amount of new content to the seven-year-old game.
Along with the new heist, the Cayo Perico update introduced a new island for GTA Online players to discover, as well as new radio stations and updated track lists. With so much new content coming with one update, the Cayo Perico experience really feels more comprehensive than any previous GTA Online update. The island of Cayo Perico itself is also notable in that it is a new piece of land, separate from Los Santos, that players can explore alone or with friends – just not in free-roam.

Grand Theft Auto data mine VideoTech_ became curious about the size of the island in relation to mainland Los Santos and took to the internet to share their findings. Video Tech_ posted several images comparing the models of Cayo Perico and Los Santos side by side, as well as one showing the island on top of Los Santos for scale. In a tweet VideoTech_ writes: “here are Los Santos and Cayo Island from above the sky and in Los Santos to get more of an idea of the exact size.Despite all of the content included in the Cayo Perico Heist update, the island itself does not appear to be any bigger than downtown Los Santos, which stretches from what appears to be the Rockford Hills area (home of tritagonist Michael De Santa, just next to Los Santos International Airport.
The island of Cayo Perico is also not as densely populated as Los Santos, as it is a private island and houses the paramilitary compound of a notorious drug lord. Instead, the island is home to a harbor, an airport, a cocaine farm and DJs who throw beach parties (and maybe even Fortnitestyle concerts in the future). However, as VideoTech_ points out in another tweet, “It feels huge. It looks small from a distance, but it’s bloody huge when you’re on the island. You will be surprised when you play it. “
At this point, Cayo Perico Island still can’t be explored in free-roam mode, and it’s unclear if this will ever be the case – at least, without the help of mods. Looks like the island will keep a novelty for a while as it will only be accessible for the duration of the new raid which means GTA Online players will not be allowed to exceed their welcome and will tire of it for the time being. Still, regardless of size, a new piece of map to explore is a welcome addition to a seven-year-old game with no public follow-up plans like GTA Online.
