Sir David Attenborough welcomed Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election and stressed America’s importance in the fight against climate change.

Mr Biden has pledged to rejoin the Paris climate accord on the first day of his presidency, after Donald Trump controversially pulled Washington out.

The international agreement aims to combat global warming.

Sir David, a passionate environmentalist, said ‘of course’ Mr Biden’s election victory in November was good for the world, adding ‘how can I deny that?’

Sir David, a passionate environmentalist, said 'of course' Mr Biden's election victory in November was good for the world, adding 'how can I deny that?'

Sir David, a passionate environmentalist, said ‘of course’ Mr Biden’s election victory in November was good for the world, adding ‘how can I deny that?’

Speaking to the Radio Times, the beloved naturalist, 94, discussed the US’s return to the climate change table.

He said, “It is of the utmost importance. The greatest power in the world and the most important economic power in the world?

“Of course, it is absolutely crucial that it be a party to all these things and if we are to find a solution with international agreements, America’s presence is immeasurable.”

Sir David, who recently worked on the Netflix documentary A Life On Our Planet, is an intrepid traveler and has made films from all over the world.

However, his flying days may be over. When asked if he will ever travel abroad again to film, he said ‘no, not much’.

Sir David added: ‘It’s probably a fact of age, but I found my heart sinking deeper into my boots every time I walked on a plane and looked down that long line and thought,’ I’m going to be here 24 hours. ‘

“I didn’t enjoy it.”
