Silent Hill, Gradius and Contra composer Akira Yamaoka teases new project

Akira Yamaoka’s has a long history in gaming. Best known as the composer of the Silent Hill series, he recently worked on the Xbox Series X | S / PC game The medium, but he does not rest quickly. Less than a week after launch, Yamaoka is already teasing his next big project.

While sitting down with Al Hub for an interview, when asked if he is currently working on other projects, Yamaoka replied, “You will probably hear something to be announced this summer”. Speaking through a translator, he added, “And I think it’s the one you’re hoping to hear a little bit about.”

Since then, Al Hub has removed this story and put the YouTube video on private, which begs the question of whether Yamaoka let something slip he shouldn’t have done.

As for what game this could be, a new Silent Hill entry would be the obvious candidate. Since Silent hills’ cancellation in 2015, there is a high demand for a new game. Yamaoka’s interest in returning is known and given that he’s been working on it Dead By Daylight’s Silent Hill update last year, fans understandably excited.

Yamaoka has also worked on such titles as Contra: Hard Corps, Gradius III, Rumble Roses and Snatcher. However, it is worth noting that he left Konami in 2009 and has worked mainly with Grasshopper Manufacture ever since. Whenever his recent projects include Ninjala and World of tanks, we don’t want to jump to conclusions. Either way, it sounds like we have something to look forward to this summer.
