As we’ve seen one Clarice Starling on the many adaptations of Thomas Harris’s literature Over the years, nearly every story about the hotshot, young FBI agent has focused on her tireless pursuit of finding and incarcerating serial killers. Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet are new Clarice series for CBS wants to change things a bit.

When you get to know Rebecca Breeds’ take on Starling, she’s at a point in her career when she’s the serial killer antagonist of Silence of the lambs, Jame “Buffalo Bill” Gumb, and made a name for himself as someone in the agency with the actual chops to get the job done right. But while Clarice’s temperament and ability to perceive the intentions of others really makes her such a skilled investigator, you see in Clarice‘s first vol trailer is that her talents make her a target in the FBI – someone at least some of her colleagues see that as be outside her departmenth.

At the same time as there are people running around the Washington DC area to kill people, Clarice is tasked with surpassing the obstacles and expectations of anyone who hopes she will fail. It’s a challenge that is more than enough for Starling, but as you can see in the last moments of the trailer, it won’t be long before her work finally gets her. right in the middle of danger that no one really should be dealing with.

Big like Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal looms up Clarices shade for obvious reasons, it seems like the shows will exist in very different spaces, both tone and style, despite their shared topic. Or Clarice ultimately becoming a compelling story that will keep you coming back to this blood-soaked world of unhealthy killers will depend on what kind of poignant storytelling it starts weaving when the series premieres on CBS on February 11.
