Members of the 101st Airborne came to assist in the administration of vaccines at the mass vaccination site near West Side. Appointments are still available for the United Center, even though tens of thousands were booked on Thursday, causing some technical headaches for hope.
City officials say that despite some early problems with the appointment website ZocDoc and problems with the overwhelming dial-up option, nearly 28,000 seniors registered by phone and online by mid-afternoon.
The site offers 110,000 appointment times, but seniors will have exclusive access to it until 4 p.m. Sunday.
The United Center site will be the largest in the state. It will have a soft opening next Tuesday.
Another massive vaccination site opened Friday in Des Plaines, handing out 800 Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
Appointments for all 18,000 places were booked within hours on Thursday. The Des Plaines site is for Cook County residents only.
It will be the state’s first large-scale location where the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered, which is a single dose vaccination.
Appointments for the Des Plaines mass vaccination site can be made at vaccine.cookcountyil.gov or by phone at (833) 308-1988. The site is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 7pm
