Those who want to use the feature should make sure that they are running the latest version of the app. Signal will automatically update older groups to the new group interface in the coming weeks, which will show a video call button at the top of the chat. Group calls show participants in a grid view, but users can simply swipe up to switch to a view where the screen is focused on the person currently speaking.
The bad news is that Signal’s group video calling feature won’t work for large classes or meetings as it is currently limited to just five participants. The developer of the app says it is working to increase the number of people who can participate in video calls, with a promise that this will happen ‘soon.
