Siamese Yemeni twins fly to Jordan for divorce surgery

According to a video of their trip, two-month-old Siamese boys from Yemen flew to Jordan over the weekend to undergo divorce surgery.

The twins, Mohammed and Ahmed, were born on December 17, joined at the rib cage and stomach.

Their father said the family is receiving international treatment with the help of UNICEF because of the limited resources of Yemen’s ailing healthcare system.

Yemen has been under the spell of civil war for six years, causing what the United Nations has called the “world’s worst humanitarian crisis”.

The boys’ 35-year-old mother works as a street vendor in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, UNICEF said.

The agency said “private donors” will cover the costs of the operation.

“After weeks of appointments, we are pleased that the twins are now in a hospital in Jordan for surgery,” Philippe Duamelle, UNICEF representative in Yemen, said in a statement.

“[The twins] are now in the safe hands of a team of expert surgeons. We hope to see them back in good health in Sana’a soon. “
