Shopper removes underwear to use as an improvised face mask at the supermarket

Video footage captures the moment when a shopper took off her underwear to use as a face mask warned she wouldn’t be served in a supermarket without one.

The incident was filmed in a Pick n Pay supermarket in South Africa, where the female shopper was asked to wear a face covering in the store.

However, she said she didn’t have one, which meant she had to get creative.

The clip shows the guard asking the woman to put on a face mask and threatening to take her out of the store if she doesn’t put it on.

The woman then reached under her dress and takes off her underpants before putting them on her face like an improvised mask.

Another customer seems to congratulate her and says, “Well done.”

The clip has since gone viral, although not everyone believes the woman was right with her replacement face covering, with many social media users defending the mandatory use of masks.

a Facebook user said, “Stay home and shop online if you don’t like the idea of a mask.”

Another commented, “This is making me sick. She is aware of the law worldwide. We have a serious virus and [she thinks] a G-string will save her.

Come on, grow up. What should your family think? ‘

In December 2020 South African President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasizes that not wearing a face mask in public is a criminal offense.

Announcing that it would be mandatory for everyone to wear a mask in a public place, he said, “We now know that the easiest and most effective way to reduce the transmission of the coronavirus is to wear a cloth mask that covers the nose and mouth when out in public.

“Until now, owners and managers of shops and public buildings, employers and public transport operators had a legal responsibility to ensure that everyone entering their property or vehicle wears a mask.

“But given the dire danger our country now faces, the amended level 3 regulation will make every individual legally responsible for wearing a mask in public.

“A person who does not wear a mask can be arrested and prosecuted.

“If convicted they will be punished with a fine or imprisonment of up to six months, or both a fine and imprisonment.”
