Sheryl Underwood reflects on heated Sharon Osbourne encounter: ‘I Sleep Well’

Sheryl Underwood has opened up about how she felt after Sharon Osbourne, her “The Talk” co-host, yelled at her last week during a discussion about Piers Morgan’s brutal attacks on Meghan Markle.

The comedian was “relieved” after the entire ordeal, she said Saturday in an episode of her podcast “The World According to Sheryl.”

‘I had a good night’s sleep. I slept well because I didn’t hurt anyone, ”she said. “And I was a good friend, whatever came my way, I was a good friend.”

On an episode of “The Talk” last week, Underwood questioned Osbourne about it tweeting her support for Morgan, who publicly expressed doubts about the things the Duchess of Sussex said during her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. During that interview, Meghan shared her experiences with racism, revealing that she had contemplated suicide.

“What would you say to people who might feel that while you’re standing next to your friend, it seems like you’re giving validation or a safe haven to something he’s uttered that is racist?” Underwood asked Osbourne.

The conversation quickly took a turn when an inflamed Osbourne demanded that Underwood ‘inform’ her of how Morgan’s rejection of Meghan’s experiences – and his long-term fixation with her – could be viewed as racist. (See parts of the segment below.)

In the podcast episode released Saturday, Underwood also pointed out that she had tried to explain the differences between covert and overt racism to Osbourne.

She then discussed what it was like on set, shortly after the heated exchange.

“The atmosphere for me was, this was all forgiven and over as soon as it was said,” she said. “As soon as the screams and screams happened, it was already forgiven and over.”

“I don’t know what’s in Sharon’s heart, I don’t know what she feels,” Underwood said later. “The only feelings I can control … are my own.”

Underwood said Osbourne approached her to talk after their on-air interaction, but they “ squashed it. ”

Osbourne told ‘Entertainment Tonight’ on Tuesday that she felt blind when Underwood questioned her about Morgan and that she felt like she had been ‘tricked’. She told ET that she loved Underwood and apologized to her, but that “she hasn’t returned.”

“I should never have ignored her feelings on national TV,” added Osbourne.

Earlier this week, journalist Yashar Ali reported that Osbourne was accused of making racist and homophobic comments about her former colleagues. She has denied these allegations.

CBS put “The Talk” on a short hiatus after Osbourne and Underwood’s exchange over Morgan. The network told Deadline on Tuesday that it had extended the hiatus to next week and was investigating “major concerns and discussions that were taking place regarding events at ‘The Talk.’
