On Thursday morning, Farhan Zaidi, president of San Francisco Giants baseball operations, told the media that the team wanted to acquire a left-handed outfielder, but would rather do so through trade rather than a free agency.
And on Thursday night, they did just that, as they traded righthanded pitcher Shaun Anderson to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for LaMonte Wade Jr.
Wade played in each of the last two MLB seasons and is a .211 / .336 / .347 batter in 113 at bats. But it’s the Giants, so you can bet his walk to strikeout ratio is legit, and that’s it: Wade has run 15 times in his career and been eliminated 18 times. He was very strong at most of the lower levels, but struggled a bit in AAA.
And so the Giants say goodbye to Anderson, who came over as part of the Eduardo Núñez trade. In 46 appearances with the Giants – including 16 starts – Anderson had a 5.17 ERA and a 4.90 FIP, with 88 strikeouts and 50 walks in 111.1 innings.
Good luck in Minny to Anderson, and welcome to the Giants, Wade.
