Several people are trapped after a Texas highway pile-up: officials

According to the Fort Worth Fire Department, several people are trapped after a highway traffic jam in Fort Worth, Texas.

At least 50 cars are involved, including some that are trapped, among other things, a police source told ABC News.

The number of people detained was not immediately clear.

Fort Worth Police blamed I-35 for the weather – icy rain has caused slippery roads in the Fort Worth area.

The accident site spans approximately 1.5 miles, WFAA, affiliated with ABC Dallas, reported.

“Expect long delays,” the police warned in a tweet. “I-35 is supported in both directions from I30 to 820.”

“If you’re involved in a minor accident with no injuries, exchange information and proceed safely. You can then notify your insurance when you arrive at your destination,” police tweeted.
