Seth Meyers actually went after President Joe Biden pretty hard Monday night – but not for the reasons Fox News wanted.
Instead, the Late at night host criticized Biden for participating in what he sees as a “useless and absurd exercise” by “yielding to” the Republicans’ demands of “bipartisanship” when it comes to COVID aid. “Just the fact that he’s willing to sit down and listen to you is more than you deserve,” Meyers said directly to those GOP senators looking to cut the aid package.
He compared Biden to the neighbor who keeps throwing back the Frisbee that ends up in his yard even after the kids throw dog poo on it, and he asked, “Seriously Joe, why are you taking everything Susan Collins says seriously? Just send people the checks. No one cares if she’s moderately disappointed with the process. “
And then, noting how Republicans used that same process of fiscal reconciliation to push through corporate tax cuts, he said, “Nothing they say about compromise and duality should be taken seriously. They have been pulling the same scam for years. “
“Do you know how I know that?” Meyers asked. “Because Democrats have fallen into this trap many times before, including a certain Vice President in 2012.” To that played the clip of Biden predicting that the Republican “fever” would break after President Obama was re-elected. “The fever not only didn’t break, it got worse,” he added. “Probably thanks to that secret Jewish space laser who invented COVID and hacked the election together with Bill Gates and Hugo Chavez!”
“Republicans will not suddenly become reasonable,” he continued, urging Biden to follow a signal from his former Democratic opponent Bernie Sanders and “set aside” “bad faith Republicans whining about duality.”
