A month after the start of the ‘economic order’ process, the Cuban government corrected the price of fuel sold in the service centers or gas stations of the state-owned Cuba Petróleo (Cupet), which belongs to the Cimex Corporation and established a discount for Cubans dedicated to private transportation.
To take advantage of the discounts, carriers must purchase fuel using a magnetic card with a bank account for the exclusive use of the activity they are performing.
The purpose of the purchase mode is to control the fuel, as now two types of prices will co-exist in the gas stations: that of the population and that of the private transport sector.
New fuel prices per liter in Cuba
- Gasoline 83 Octane: 14.66 CUP
- 90 octane gasoline: 16.46 CUP
- 95 octane gasoline: 17.37 CUP
- Normal diesel: 13.99 CUP
- Special diesel: 15.12 CUP
For the rest of consumers, fuel costs do not change and remain at 25 CUP for a liter of regular gasoline (90 octane), 30 CUP for specialty gasoline (95 octane), while diesel in all its categories costs 25 CUP.
Cimex clarifies that “those using the band cards authorized by Fincimex SA to purchase fuel from the service network must have sufficient cash deposited in their tax bank accounts to allow them to pay for the fuel they are allowed to consume.”
According to the Cuban state budget for 2021, 20% of the total expenditure is for the purchase of fuel.
But according to the economy minister Alejandro Gil Fernández, the availability of fuel is not assured due to the difficult situation of the current situation.
“As of today, no one can say how much fuel we will give to the entities next year. It will depend on the availability that exists in the country and the currency, ”Gil Fernández said while presenting Cuba’s economic projections at the sixth regular session of the National Assembly of the People’s Power.
Cimex accepts prepaid cards to ship fuel
Since December 15 last year, Cimex has adopted a method used by ETECSA to market the fuel in service centers around the country as it This allows you to pay for fuel with a prepaid card.
Each card is assigned an amount of fuel depending on the amount for which they were obtained. The tickets cost between 25 and 1250 CUP.
